ASIST Training
Mind Cymru is delivering this essential “Suicide First Aid” training (2 day course) to people and communities across Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot.
The training costs are covered by the Big Lottery (usually £180 pp), and therefore it’s available free of charge for people who live or work in the Counties of Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot
All sessions for the Bridgend and Neath Port Talbot area are fully booked for the current financial year.

Bridge Mentoring Plus Scheme

Peer Mentoring – OCN Level 1 and 2
Course Information
These courses are held over 2 sessions and proactively demonstrate to attendees vital skills needed within peer mentoring. Peer mentoring is a skill that can be used in any environment. This training helps people to understand the role and responsibilities, boundaries and expectations when supporting someone with anyone with emotion difficulties providing the mentor with the confidence and ability to support a vulnerable person in need.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone over 16 who would like to develop confidence and self esteem. It is particularly useful for anyone who works with or knows people who are going through any emotional difficulties.

Emotional Well Being – Understanding + Handling Relationships – OCN Level 1
Course Information
This half day course demonstrates keys skills for those wanted to be part of a healthy positive relationship. Delegates will learn the importance of communication(including active listening, negotiation, explanation and feedback),will help delegates identify positive and negative affects of power and control as well as recognise the differences between behaviour types.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone over 16 who would like to learn a bit more about themselves or would like to be able to foster better relationships with others.

Emotional Well Being – Getting and Giving Support OCN Level 2
Course Information
This course aims to raise the awareness of different types of support available locally for people who maybe thinking of suicide or who maybe in a position of supporting someone thinking of suicide. Delegates will learn how to develop, implement and evaluate a support plan as well as recognising the limitations of information and advice provided.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone over 16 who is/maybe supporting someone and would like to feel more confident about what they are doing.

Youth Works
Aged 16-25 and affected by mental health distress, self esteem or confidence issues? Youth Works offers a programme of activities designed to build confidence and self esteem and to increase support.

Course Information – Youth Works emotional health programme support emotionally vulnerable children and young people improve their self esteem and resilience, enabling them to cope more effectively with life. It aims to:
1 To promote positive emotional / mental health. To extend the choice and control that young people have over their emotional health.
2 To allow young people to understand and express their feelings
3 To nurture and develop young people’s confidence and self esteem
4 Increase emotional resilience
5 To reduce the stigma attached to emotional / mental health.
6 Respect the individuality and diversity of all young people, their views and opinions.
We hope that
1 Young people will have the time and space to explore and understand their own emotions.
2 Young people will develop their confidence and self-esteem through a variety of activities. Including outdoor pursuits and a residential
3 Young people will benefit from enhanced employment opportunities through an increase in confidence and self esteem and gaining a nationally recognised qualification.
4 Young people will understand their own emotional needs, learn to express their emotions appropriately and develop a coping strategy for stressful situations.
5 Young people will benefit from having a person centred perspective and having fun!!!

Yellow Wales (Youth Enterprise, Lifelong Learning and Opportunities to Work)
Yellow Wales aims to prevent homelessness, supporting people to develop self esteem, good health and wellbeing. Participation and engagement opportunities, OCN courses in Listening Skills. “Circles of support” are also provided.

Courses Information
The Listening Skills Course (OCN Level 2) aims to equip learners with active listening skills.
The course is designed to develop communication skills. We speak and listen, but do we really hear what is being said? Do others fully understand what we are trying to communicate? This course looks at non judgemental and active listening skills; communication, and barriers to communication; speaking skills; giving and obtaining information; and criticism. It is designed to further equip staff working directly with people, especially vulnerable people: to increase their ability to hear what is being said, and to respond appropriately.
Who Should Attend?
Anyone young person / community member that feel they could benefit from developing their particular skills further.

Yellow Wales also offer
Introduction to Listening Skills: are also available and can be delivered to – agencies, young people and community members on request and availability.
Cascading of the Listening Skills: Learning resources are available, on completion of the OCN level 2 training. These resources are then to be cascaded to the community/agencies with support from Yellow Wales
Participation:
Through participation Yellow Wales aim to promote inclusion and positive mental health to improve wellbeing. Participation is also available to any individual who wishes to engage in a wide range of opportunities. Those contributing through Yellow Wales will be supported to progress into training/work experiences to further their career paths and volunteer opportunities.
Participation is available to those who would like to improve self-esteem through involvement, support and guidance. Yellow Wales can sign post individuals to in-house projects or outside agencies. Working on a four day programme young people and community members can engage in a wide range of activities and training.
Participation opportunities are available – Tuesday to Friday – 10 am till 3.30 pm – evening sessions are also planned. Dates and times are to be confirmed
Circle of Support:
Yellow Wales facilitates the circle of Support to individuals who feel they would benefit from intensive support – ‘Circles’ are for community members who may feel isolated, share a common interest, need or goal, and support individuals through providing intensive support for the individual. The ‘Circles’ can provide guidance, hospitality and caring to people who are vulnerable in their community. Social isolation and emotional loneliness are identified as factors of poor mental health. Circles of support are members of the public who support a ‘Core Member’ in the community. Inclusion promotes positive mental health and changing attitudes to mental health.
